After a lot of thought, my garden plans are starting to come together. Here’s what’s going into my garden, greenhouse and pots this spring:
Hardy Herbs:
Chives, mint, thyme, and rosemary
Parsley and basil (under cover in the greenhouse)
Vegetables:
Onion
Salad leaves
Peas
Early potatoes
Tomatoes
Fruit:
Honeyberry (trying this for the first time this year)
Loganberry (never tried these before either)
Window boxes are also a great way to grow your own herbs and salad leaves, or containers on balconies or doorsteps.
I’m especially excited about the fruits this year – honeyberries are supposed to be like blueberries but hardier for our climate, and loganberries should give a nice tangy alternative to raspberries. If you’re new to growing, start with herbs and salad leaves – they’re quick to grow, don’t need much space, and are expensive to buy fresh from shops, so they’re definitely worth the effort!
